Wheelchair Sports Inc. Members Tiffany Nickel and Grady Landrum were interviewed by KWCH News for this story that aired 11/4/2009.

KWCH:
What happened to you? Do your legs move? How long will you be in that chair?

Innocent questions from a curious child are not unusual, but when those questions come from an adult, it's rude, and not the questions you'd usually ask someone you just met.

But when a person has a visible disability, people forget boundaries and feel they can ask or say anything. Read the rest at KWCH.com

Tiffany Nickel: "Ms. Wheelchair Kansas 2010"
MS. Wheelchair KS. 2010I wanted to share my recent accomplishment of being selected as "Ms Wheelchair Kansas 2010" with you.  This was a weekend long endeavor that brings with it a year of responsibilities.  I definitely never thought I would take the risk of competing in an event such as this, but with some good encouragement and sponsorship from Maurice and Rita Linnens, owners of Kansas Truck & Mobility, I dove right in!

I now begin the task of sharing my platform, "Capabilities of those with Disabilities and Unconditional Access" by scheduling events and appearances to complete my contract responsibilities of this title; specifically 2 events a month. AND, the more difficult task of raising funds to compete in the national "Ms. Wheelchair 2010" competition occurring in Michigan in August.

Kansas Native Competes at U.S. Open

by Denise Hnytka (WICHITA, Kan)

Even in a casual practice, Nick Taylor's moves on the tennis court are quick, even, and precise.

"I'm an extremely competitive person. I could turn eating mashing potatoes into a competition," he joked.

His drive to compete in something, anything, brought him to the court in the first place.

"No contact sports were going to work," he remembered. "I've been in a power chair basically my entire life. Track would be stupid, because driving a power chair around in circles wouldn't make much sense. It came down to tennis or golf.

To this day, Taylor doesn't know what it is that hooked him. It could be as simple as, he's good at it.

"Every day I'm around Nick, it fires me up," said Brad Louderback, Head Men's Tennis Coach at Wichita State. "Who wouldn't want that in a college division one program?"

As an assistant coach of the WSU's men's tennis team, Taylor stays on the sidelines. But if there's one thing to know about him, he doesn't stay there long.
