Wheelchair Sports Inc. and Wichita Adaptive Sports Program 1st Ready, Set, Adapt Clinic

On October 14th, Wheelchair Sports Inc. in sponsorship with the Amerigroup Foundation, will be hosting a 2-day sports clinic for some of the Wichita area’s youngest adaptive athletes. The Ready, Set, Adapt clinic will allow youth with a wide range of physical disabilities to take part in 6 sports in hope to teach disabled youth how to become and stay regularly active through sports.

The Ready, Set, Adapt clinic will be led by several renowned Paralympic medalists.  Track and Field will boast Paralympians Liz Willis and Cheri Madsen who has competed in 3 Paralympic Games, medaling in all.  Wichita’s own Paralympic tennis player Nick Taylor will be leading a tennis clinic.  Nick has been to the Paralympics 5 times, bringing home 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze metal.  During the 2 day event, held at Wichita State’s Heskett Center, WSI will also offer clinics in wheelchair basketball, hand cycling, bocce, and power soccer.

Ready, Set, Adapt is an inclusive clinic open to athletes between the ages of 4 and 24, of all skill levels who have physical or visual impairments. These include, but are not limited to: Amputation, spinal cord injury, paraplegia, quadriplegia, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, blindness or visual impairment, TBI or head injury, stroke, muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular/orthopedic conditions, limb difference, brachial plexus, dwarfism or short stature. Further, the venue at WSU offer athletes a unique opportunity to compete and learn at a top notch facility, where they can participate in clinics to learn and hone their skills, then connect with other athletes.
