WSI Sports Clinic and Annual Meeting

crop2

Article by LeRoy Kreutzer - Feb 3, 2010

Wheelchair Sports, Inc. got 2010 rolling in traditional fashion on Saturday, January 23rd.  The group hosted the annual sports clinic, at the WSU Heskett Center, giving members and guests the opportunity to take part in several sports led by WSI staff. Many new hand cyclers took advantage of the guidance and experience of James Watson, while other members and guests learned the art of boccia with Carson Hayes or practiced basketball skills with Justin Daily.  The day wrapped up with the organization’s annual meeting.  Wheelchair Sports, Inc. President, Wayne Romero led the meeting and several members described many of the 2009 events including the annual Air Capital Classic tennis tournament, horseback riding, Wichita Omnium handcycle race, the annual Wichita Thunder vs. The Plunder hockey fundraiser, and bowling night. Wheelchair Sports, Inc. also supports the up/down bowling league. In addition, opportunities for participants to take advantage of outdoor events like the annual Summer Splash and snow skiing scholarships through Challenge Aspen were discussed as well as the use of the Wheelchair Sports, Inc. website.  Members were encouraged to participate in the Challenge Games in Derby May 15thand for more information call Carol Keller at 316-788-3801.  Phil Frasier and Dr. Brett Rouf were nominated and elected to serve as Board Members in 2010. Pizza and pop were provided and everyone left with a door prize.  Make your plans now to be there when all this fun happens again in 2011.  Be on the lookout for flyers detailing upcoming events.  As always, www.wcsports.org can be used to find a list of upcoming events that may be of interest you.
